A document signed by Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr., it states that the casket bearing Enrile’s remains are expected to arrive at 8:45 a.m. at the session hall.
Attendees are requested to be at the ground floor lobby and the gate by 8:30 a.m. for the arrival honors at the Senate.
Only invited guests and authorized personnel will be allowed inside the session hall for the service. Viewing of the late Senate President’s remains will begin after the necrological rites.
In a radio interview on Usapang Senado at DWIZ, Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III said that they would never consider this event as an inconvenience.
Enrile's death was announced by his family on the first day of plenary budget deliberations. As part of tradition, Sotto suspended the session also as a sign of respect and mourning.
"Tradisyon yun eh. Kahit na nasa abroad pa, kahit na hindi incumbent, dahil dating senador. Basta senador, ang tradisyon ay tumitigil ang trabaho. So nag-suspend kami agad (t’s a tradition. Even if the person is abroad or not an incumbent anymore, as long as they are a former senator, work stops. So we immediately suspended the session)," he said.
"Hindi makakaabala sa'min yun at di naming tuturingin abala yung nangyari sapagkat ito'y dapat naming gawin (That won’t be a bother to us, and we will not consider what happened an inconvenience because it is something we ought to do)," Sotto added.
He added that the memorial service in the Senate is something that Enrile's family wanted.
Enrile's daughter, Katrina Ponce Enrile, confirmed the passing of the former senator on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 13. He was 101.
