PNP warns public vs fake social media posts of large number of protesters at Mendiola
The Philippine National Police (PNP) urged the public to be wary of social media posts in relation to the three-day assemblies in Manila and Quezon City amid circulating online claims that a large number of people are already gathering in Mendiola.
In a statement, police said the verification made by ground forces revealed that the social media posts are false, misleading, and deliberately crafted to create unnecessary alarm and confusion.
“We urge the public not to believe unverified information circulating on social media. Always check the source and rely only on official government advisories and credible news outlets,” the statement read.
It said it will issue situation updates and alerts based on validated assessments from units on the ground—not on speculation or fabricated reports, “Any significant crowd development will be communicated through official channels.”
Police forces across the country are now on full alert, while more than 16,000 policemen, backed by augmentation forces from other government agencies will be tapped to secure Luneta in Manila and People Power Monument in Quezon City.
The deployment of policemen have already started as early as Saturday morning.
The three-day assembly will start on Sunday, Nov. 16.
“The PNP remains fully prepared to ensure a safe, peaceful, and orderly conduct of activities starting tomorrow. Security, traffic, and public safety personnel are deployed and actively monitoring key areas across Metro Manila,” the statement read.
Police also remind the public that the willful and malicious dissemination of false information, especially when intended to mislead or cause public panic, carries legal consequences. T
“We call on the public to stay calm, stay informed, and support efforts to maintain peace and order during the upcoming three-day assemblies. Your Philippine National Police is on full alert and committed to safeguarding the welfare and security of all,” it said.
