Police turned over a child in conflict with the law (CICL) to the Bahay Pag-asa in Parañaque after he was arrested for two counts of statutory rape on Nov. 14.
The Southern Police District Special Operations Unit, District Intelligence Section, and District Mobile Force Battalion, in coordination with the Parañaque City Police, arrested the 16-year-old teenager at his residence along Cherry Street, Barangay Sun Valley.
The SPD said he was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest for two counts of statutory rape issued by Judge Marie Grace Javier Ibay, of Parañaque regional Trial Court (RTC), Branch 194, with no bail recommended.
SPD Director Brig. Gen. Randy Arceo said since the suspect is still a minor, he was turned over to Bahay Pag-Asa in Barangay La Huerta, Parañaque City, for temporary shelter, assessment, and appropriate intervention in accordance with the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act.
Arceo said their approach balances the pursuit of justice with the duty to protect the welfare of minors in conflict with the law.
"The SPD remains firm in addressing all forms of sexual violence and in upholding the highest standards of child protection," Arceo said.
