The city government of Las Piñas conducted the “bayanihan" clean-up drive at Tartar Creek in Barangays Pamplona Tres and Talon Uno last Nov. 13 as part of President Ferdinand Marcos' program on “Oplan Kontra Baha.”
Las Piñas City Mayor April Aguilar said the “Oplan Kontra Baha” program aimed to clean and remove pollution in esteros and waterways to improve water flow.
Aguilar said the city government was joined by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) flood control office personnel and Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) beneficiaries during the conduct of a clean-up drive.
She said the city government conducted flood control and dredging operations to remove thick mud, garbage, debris, and other obstructions along the creeks as an effective solution to mitigate, reduce, or completely prevent flooding in Las Piñas City.
The mayor said the MMDA and TUPAD beneficiaries were able to collect plastics, woods, bottles, bamboo, and tree branches.
Aguilar said MMDA Chairman Romando Artes was present during the clean-up drive and distributed lily pots and charcoal briquettes, which were made of water hyacinths and produced at their hyacinth facility- a process to recycle plants collected and help livelihood in the community.
