Five major national roads and bridges in Northern Luzon are still impassable due to the extensive damage caused by Super Typhoon “Uwan,” the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Friday, Nov. 14.
Scoured approaches, high water levels, collapsed roadways, and landslide debris continue to block key transport corridors in Cagayan, Isabela, and Nueva Vizcaya, the agency said.
The DPWH cited the Itawes Overflow Bridges 1 and 2 in Piat and Tuao, Cagayan as closed due to scoured approaches, forcing motorists to use the Aquino Bridge in Lakambini.
High waters have also shut the Cabagan–Sta. Maria Overflow Bridge in Isabela, redirecting travel through the Sta. Maria–Cabagan–Sto. Tomas route and the Maharlika Highway.
In Nueva Vizcaya, the Nueva Vizcaya–Pangasinan Road in Sta. Fe collapsed, while the Bambang–Kasibu–Solano Road remains obstructed by rocks, debris, and a damaged box culvert.
“Warning signs were installed and assets deployed in the affected areas, with continuous monitoring being conducted,” the DPWH said, adding that field teams are stationed to secure the sites.
Earlier data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) showed that 625 road sections and 78 bridges were affected by the typhoon.
Of these, 277 roads and 61 bridges remain impassable.
The NDRRMC also estimated infrastructure losses caused by Uwan at P126.6 million.
