Philippines may remain cyclone-free over the coming week — PAGASA
After back-to-back typhoons, Filipinos can expect a brief respite as the country remains free from tropical cyclones over the coming week, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
In its weather outlook for Nov. 14 to 21, PAGASA said the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), northeast monsoon (amihan), and shear line will be the dominant weather systems that will affect the country during the period.
From Friday to Sunday, Nov. 14 to 16, the ITCZ is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao. The ITCZ is a weather system formed by the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres.
Meanwhile, the amihan will bring cloudy skies with rains over Cagayan Valley and Aurora, and partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated light rains over the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Ilocos Region.
The rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or localized thunderstorms.
From Monday to Friday, Nov. 17 to 21, the ITCZ will continue to affect Palawan, Eastern Visayas, and Mindanao.
Batanes and Babuyan Islands will have cloudy skies with rains due to the amihan, while the rest of Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol Region will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line.
The shear line is a weather system formed by the collision of cold air from the amihan and warm winds from the easterlies.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with the possibility of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA said that no tropical cyclone is expected to enter or develop inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility during the outlook period.
