NLEX has signed veteran forward Sidney Onwubere to a two-conference deal, the team announced Friday, Nov. 14.
A free agent at the start of the season, the 6-foot-4 big man is expected to provide an additional wide body for the Road Warriors, who in spite of the relatively successful campaign so far, keeps on finding ways to improve their roster.
Onwubere is also bringing in a wealth of experience to the NLEX frontline which has only relied on sophomores JB Bahio, Jonnel Policarpio, and Brandon Ramirez. He has played for TNT, Rain or Shine, NorthPort and Ginebra through his eight years in the league.
"Very happy na makabalik. I’m going back to one of the MVP Group teams, and that makes it more exciting,” said Onwubere, who averaged 5.0 points and 3.4 rebounds across 35 games last season.
“Hopefully, I can contribute even a little bit and help NLEX continue their excellent standing,” he added.
Onwubere is optimistic that he will have a smooth time adjusting especially after getting reunited with Robert Bolick, who he played with during his days with the Batang Pier, and Javee Mocon, who was his teammate with the Elasto Painters.
“Happy na makasama ko rin yung dating teammates ko na sina Robert at Javee,” added the veteran forward, who will make his debut for NLEX when it takes on Magnolia on Sunday, Nov. 16 at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
