The Sangguniang Panlalawigan declared a state of calamity in Mountain Province due to the effects of super typhoon “Uwan” during a special session on Friday, Nov. 14.
The declaration was made following the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) through PDRRMC Resolution No. 2025-076 titled "A Resolution recommending to the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan the declaration of state of calamity in Mountain Province due to the effects and impacts of super typhoon Uwan."
The resolution said Uwan brought heavy to torrential rainfall accompanied by strong winds, resulting in severe and widespread damage to the social, infrastructure, and agricultural sectors, and significantly affecting the lives and livelihoods of the people in the province.
The state of calamity enables the provincial government to use the 30 percent Quick Response Fund from the five percent local DRRM fund for disaster response.
A price freeze on all basic goods will be implemented in the province to safeguard consumers.
Uwan partially destroyed 1,343 and totally damaged 69 houses, logged two fatalities, four injured, and one missing in the province.
Damage to agriculture was significant and poses a considerable threat to the livelihood of the people.
Meanwhile, Uwan has affected 43,812 families or 149,041 individuals from 826 barangays in the Cordillera region.
Two-hundred thirty-four houses were totally and 353 were partially damaged. Two-hundred thirty-four families or 718 individuals are staying in various evacuation centers.
Almost P11 million in assistance have been given to affected families and more than 54,300 family food packs and 19,985 non-food items and 8,440 ready to eat food have been distributed.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera led by Regional Director Maria Catbagan-Aplaten has distributed family food packs and non-food items to affected families in Lagawe, Ifugao.
More than 1,780 families or 5,770 individuals were affected in Ifugao.
Uwan killed 10 persons in Ifugao.
