Kiray Celis apologizes over viral prenup photo shoot in Japan

Actress Kiray Celis has apologized to people who were offended by a pre-nuptial photo that showed her posing on top of a vending machine in Japan.

"Sa mga na-offend na overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) at Japanese, pasensya na po. Kung may lesson man ako na natutunan sa nangyari, I think ito ay maging sensitive tayo. Kumbaga intindihin natin kung ano ang mararamdaman ng mga nakakakita or makakasama mo. (To the OFWs and Japanese who were offended, I'm sorry. If there's a lesson I've learned from what happened, I think we should be sensitive. Let's be sensitive about the feelings of others)," Kiray said during the launch of Kiray Brands' Hot Babe and Skin Vibe products in Quezon City.
The 31-year-old actress stated that she and her fiancé, Stephan Estopia, did not anticipate the single photo taken in Japan would become controversial.
"Excited talaga kami sa nangyaring photoshoot sa Japan. So pag-uwi namin, upload agad kami ng mga pictures. The next day pag-gising ko, sabi ko sa boyfriend ko, ano'ng nangyari? Bakit ang daming galit? Iniisip ko yung dahilan. Then I realized doon pala sa vending machine. (We were really excited about the photoshoot in Japan. So when we got home, we immediately uploaded the pictures. The next day, when I woke up, I said to my boyfriend, 'What happened?' Why are there so many angry people? I was thinking about the reason. Then I realized it was in the vending machine)," she added.
Kiray said the prenup shoot in Japan was full of excitement because some people there really wondered if she was a commercial model. The controversial photo had been deleted.
"Sa mga OFW natin, mahal na mahal ko kayo. Lalo na ang Japan. Gusto ko lang i-share na yung first dance namin kapag mag-asawa na kami ay 'First Love' by Hikaru Utada. Ganun namin ka mahal ang Japan. Fan kami ng Japan. (To our OFWs, I love you so much. Especially Japan. I want to share that our first dance at our wedding was 'First Love' by Hikaru Utada. We love Japan that much. We are fans of Japan.)"

"No harm done during the shoot. Huwag na po kayong magalit. Let's spread love. Let's be kind to one another," Kiray added.
Kiray also revealed some of the godparents for their upcoming church wedding.
When she and her boyfriend got engaged, the next thing they did was to come up with a list of godparents, she said.
Among the godparents are Maricel Soriano, Sharon Cuneta, Marian Rivera, Eugene Domingo, Melai Cantiveros, Jason Francisco, Ai-Ai delas Alas, Dingdong Dantes, Gov. Chavit, Sen. Bong Go, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Maricel Tulfo, Boy Abunda, Vice Ganda, Gabby Concepcion, etc.
Now that she is getting married and is the CEO of her own company, Kiray stated that she will take a break from showbiz for the time being.
"Hindi ko naman kakalimutan ang showbiz dahil dito ako nakilala at doon ako nakabili ng bahay. Never kong kakalimutan at never kong tatalikuran. Sa ngayon nagre-ready lang ako for the wedding and business. Kapag stable na lahat, pwede na rin ako mag resume sa showbiz. (I will never forget showbiz because that's where people recognized me. I was able to build a house through showbiz. I will never forget it, and I will never turn my back on it. Currently, I'm preparing for the wedding and my business. When everything is stable, I can resume showbiz)," she said.

Asked to describe her life now, Kiray answered, "Dati twice a day lang ako kumakain pero ngayon three times a day na. And then naibigay ko na rin po yung needs ng pamangkin ko. And then pangarap ko sa buhay is mabigyan ko yung mga tao ko ng sariling bahay. Kapag nangyari yun, doon masasabi ko na successful na ako. (I used to eat only twice a day, but now I eat three times a day. And then I was able to provide for the needs of others. My dream is to give my people their own house. When that happens, that's when I can say that I'm successful.)"
Kiray said that the most beautiful actress she has seen in Philippine showbiz is none other than Marian Rivera.
"Isa lang talaga. Nakasama ko na sya at gandang-ganda talaga ako. Tapos nakikita ko siya na walang makeup. Si Marian Rivera. As in. Sobrang ganda. Hindi sa bias ako pero iba talaga yung ganda niya. One and only talaga si Marian. Then ako na yung kasunod. (There's only one. I've worked with her and she's beautiful. Then I see her without makeup. Marian Rivera. As in. So beautiful. I'm not biased, but her beauty is really different. Marian is really the one and only. Then I'm the next one.)"
Kiray and Stephan announced their engagement in April 2025. On social media, they shared photos of the beach wedding proposal. She also flaunted her engagement ring. They have been together since 2021. She revealed that it was her boyfriend who inspired her to start a business.
