I can’t leave home without a powerbank. Maybe it’s the old boy scout training, but for some reason I keep worrying that there’s going to come a time when my phone is dying and I absolutely need to keep it alive long enough to do something important. The truth: I don’t do anything so important that I wouldn’t survive without my phone; but also, I wouldn’t survive without my phone.
Enter the UGREEN MagFlow series, specifically in my case the MagGlow Magnetic Power Bank and the 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charger. Both of these feature Qi2 wireless charging, being capable of charging wirelessly at 25w.
The most striking feature isn’t necessarily spec, but it’s the way these devices are designed. They are made to give you a smooth charging experience with your phones that have magnetic charging. To this end, the rings have a really nice snap to them. If you’re using a case on your phone that has a metal ring, this snap almost feels like a super strong suction, locking in perfectly. Even if you aren’t using a case, you just need to line things up and you will feel those magnets drawing towards each other.
The 25w wireless is a real boost and I really felt it going through a day switching heavy use between a few phones. Using an iPhone 15 that went to 20%, after half an hour of charging I was sure that I had enough juice for the rest of the day. The bigger android phone I was using charged up significantly faster. The phone that took a fair bit longer was a Samsung Z Fold7. It wasn’t bad, and if I had more time it would’ve been fine.
But at least in my experience, for phones that might need a little more juice, the USB-C fast-charging that runs 30w is a great backup option. One small nice design touch is that the braided USB-C also serves as a little handle. It’s not necessarily a new innovation, but with products like this, what you’re after are the small, almost unnoticeable quality of life things.
With that being said, the Power Bank really hits all the points you want. 10,000mAh means for someone like me who does charge regularly, I can go at least two days without worrying too much. You can do simultaneous charging of devices between the wireless magnetic and the wired options. What’s most important here is that the Power Bank’s form factor is so compact and easy to throw in a bag. Sometimes I have to struggle and dig around to find it, but that’s a good thing. I barely feel it or see it in there, and it adds only a little weight alongside everything else in my bag.
The perfect match I got to test with was the 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless charger. The design language here is the same, from the color choice to the sleek aesthetics. This powder blue is a nice break from the typical black or white of products in this space.
The charger basically does what it’s meant to, and again it has those small touches that make it just that bit nicer to use than just a simple charger. For example, the little block unfolds a bit to become a nicely angled holder you can use while the phone charges. Underneath that is a second, lower powered charger which you can use for earbuds or even a smartwatch. And there’s another USB-C port for wired charging should you need it.
This charger is a little heavier and doesn’t feel like something I would put in my EDC. Instead it’s ideal on my desk/workstation. I can also imagine bringing this on trips as a charging station in a hotel room or at a conference.
