Vice President Sara Duterte, laying the groundwork for the Office of the Vice President (OVP), bared glimpses of an ambitious plan of establishing a permanent office, museum, and charter for the agency.
Calling it the “launchpad for the future,” Duterte said this groundwork will ensure the OVP “remains strong, stable, and effective for the next century.”
Duterte said the creation of an OVP museum will be a “dedicated space to permanently preserve and showcase the history, artifacts, and enduring legacy of the Vice Presidency.”
With a permanent office, she explained the OVP will be able to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure the delivery of public service.
The OVP is currently holding office at the Robinsons Cybergate Plaza in Mandaluyong City. However, during the stint of former vice presidents Leni Robredo and Jejomar Binay, the OVP held office at the Quezon City Reception House in New Manila, Quezon City and Coconut Palace in Pasay City, respectively.
As to the OVP Charter, Duterte said it will “formally define the mandate, functions, and capacity” of the OVP, so it will be “constitutionally recognized and supported.”
“These initiatives are our commitment to democratic institution-building. Strengthening this office will allow us to serve you better, more efficiently, and with greater impact,” she said in a video message.
The OVP will celebrate its 90th anniversary on Friday, Nov. 14, with the launch of its Pop-Up Exhibit in Quezon City. This exhibit highlights the legacies and valuable contributions of former vice presidents.
“Since its establishment in 1935, this office has been a pillar of Philippine democracy, transforming challenges into opportunities for impactful, grassroots service,” Duterte said.
