Nearly nine million people were affected by the two strong typhoons that left trails of destruction mostly in the Visayas and Luzon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) said on Thursday. Nov. 13.
The death tolls for the two weather disturbances reached 259— 232 fatalities for typhoon “Tino”, mostly in Cebu and the Negros Island Region, and 27 for super typhoon “Uwan”, mostly in Cordillera Administrative Region.
In a situational report, the NDRRMC said “Uwan” affected 1,332,223 families or 4,678,142 individuals in 11,661 barangays in 16 regions while “Tino” affected a total of 1,224,877 families or 4,263,991 individuals in 7,918 barangays in nine regions.
Of the affected population, a total of 669,725 families or 2,311,340 individuals were displaced but the latest NDRRMC reports revealed a decline in the displaced families- from 955,105 individuals from 263,019 families.
The combined cost of damage to agriculture and infrastructure was placed at P1.4 billion—P818 million for Uwan and P640.9 million for Tino.
The NDRRMC report also revealed that a total of 339,244 houses were damaged -- 253,455 for Tino and 85,789 for Uwan.
Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Defense said a total of 125 people are still in the missing list while 523 people were injured for both the typhoons.
