Leviste donates P6B to foundation, aims to help students and typhoon victims

Batangas 1st district Rep. Leandro Legarda Leviste has once again showed that he is as generous as he is wealthy.
This, after Leviste bared on Thursday, Nov. 13 the donation ₱6 billion worth of shares and proceeds from share sales to help underprivileged Filipino students and typhoon victims.
The neophyte congressman made this announcement even as Filipinos continued to reel from the effects of Typhoons "Tino" and "Uwan", which successively battered the country earlier this month.
From the donated shares, Leviste’s very own Lingkod Legarda Leviste Foundation aims to generate at least an average of ₱1 billion per year for the next 50 years and serve as a long-term fund to support education and disaster relief in the Philippines.
Leviste--the country’s youngest self-made billionaire--decided to focus on public service in 2024 after selling a controlling stake in his company Solar Philippines New Energy Corporation to Meralco for P34 billion.
Now a House member, the 32-year-old has been true to his pro-student advocacy.
He has supported over 150,000 students with a ₱1,000 allowance, school bags and school supplies, and has distributed over one million relief packs to typhoon victims in the 1st district of Batangas, which includes Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan, Tuy, Balayan, Calaca, Lemery, and Taal.
Leviste hopes that his efforts can help break the cycle of poverty in districts like his – the poorest in Batangas – by supporting the education of underprivileged students.
Leviste is reinvesting the remaining proceeds from his 2024 share sales in real estate and equity investments.
