CEBU CITY – An 18-year-old man was wounded while his two companions were arrested following a shootout with the police in Argao town, Cebu province on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 12.
Wounded in the gunfight was Clyd Alipunga, a resident of Barangay Bagacay, Sibonga town, Cebu. Arrested were John Michael Rodriguez, 22, of Barangay Taloot, Argao, and a 17-year-old boy.
Investigation showed that the shootout occurred when police responded to a report that a group of armed men was spotted in Barangay Taloot at 5:17 p.m.
The group allegedly fired shots indiscriminately that prompted the barangay captain to call the police.
Argao police, led by Police Capt. Eden Rex Baguio, rushed to the area to check on the report.
Responding policemen were reportedly met with gunshots when they arrived in the area, triggering a shootout. Some of the armed men were able to escape after the shootout.
Personnel of the Scene-of-the-Crime Operation recovered nine packs of suspected shabu, one revolver, one .45 caliber pistol, a .22 Black Widow magnum revolver, and five bullets in the area.
Police said the group was headed by one John Michael Rodriguez.
