Students and school faculty of the University of the Philippines Manila (UPM) evacuated the campus grounds after receiving a bomb threat targeting two of its facilities on Thursday, Nov. 13.
According to the university's official student publication, The Manila Collegian, multiple administration offices received an email from an anonymous sender regarding a bomb threat at UPM's Calderon Hall and National Teacher Training Center for the Health Professions building earlier this morning.
"The email contained red-tagging allegations directed to the university and its constituents, and the specific coordinates of UP Manila in the subject line," the publication said.
This prompted the students and school staff to proceed to Paco Park for their safety.
Meanwhile, the Manila Police District (MPD) was immediately deployed to the school to verify the threat.
The school's administration is set to release a statement regarding the bomb threat.
In a statement, UPM Professor and Chancellor Dr. Michael Tee condemned the incident, saying the school's administration is already working together with the police to identify its perpetrators.
"The University of the Philippines Manila condemns in the strongest terms the bomb threat directed at our campus. Such actions are reprehensible and disrupt the meaningful work our community does in education, research, and public service. We urge those behind this act to stop spreading fear. These threats only harm a university dedicated to learning, healing, and serving the Filipino people. UP Manila is working closely with the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group to trace the source of the threat, identify the perpetrators, and file appropriate charges," Tee said.
"We assure our students, faculty, staff, and patients that their safety remains our top priority. We thank the UP Manila community for remaining calm, for cooperating with authorities, and for trusting the administration in the way the situation was managed. Your composure and solidarity reflect the strength and unity of our university. We ask everyone to stay vigilant and to rely only on official updates from the university," he added.
