Vice President Sara Duterte assured Negros Occidental and Cebu residents affected by Typhoon Tino that they will be provided relief aid by her office.
Duterte led the distribution of aid to typhoon victims in seven areas of Negros Occidental on Tuesday, Nov. 11, before she proceeded to Cebu the next day.
“Yung isa sa disaster response ng Office of the Vice President, meron po kaming satellite office sa Panay and Negros Islands. At sila po yung unang nag-responde dito sa Negros Occidental (One is the disaster response of the Office of the Vice President, we have a satellite office in Panay and Negros Islands. And they are the first responders here in Negros Occidental),” she said in a media interview.
Duterte said the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) satellite office in Bacolod City is assisting in the coordination with water service providers and power companies to address residents’ concerns over power outages and the lack of potable water.
The official made the remarks after setting foot in Negros Occidental, where Relief for Indigent and Individuals in Crisis and Emergencies (RIICE) boxes were distributed to more than 3,000 Negrenses.
She said the aid distribution was done in Himamaylan City, Binalbagan, Canlaon City, La Carlota City, La Castellana, Moises Padilla, Bago City, and Bacolod City, particularly in the communities of Montevista, Vista Alegre, and Punta Taytay.
“Our RIICE box contains assorted items,” Duterte said in Filipino.
Each RIICE box contains five kilos of rice and six canned goods.
Part of the relief operations of the OVP’s Disaster Operations Center was also the distribution of water containers to affected residents.
On Wednesday, Nov. 12, the Vice President went to Cebu to visit typhoons victims in Liloan, Danao City, and Compostela.
