"Exceptionally qualified."
That's how Albay 3rd district Rep. Adrian Salceda described newly-installed Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) chief Charlito Mendoza.
"I congratulate Atty. Charlito Martin R. Mendoza on his appointment as Commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue. He is exceptionally qualified," Salceda said in a statement Wednesday night, Nov. 12, shortly after Malacañang confirmed the news.
"As former chief of the Revenue Operations Group, he understands how tax policy affects investment, productivity, and food prices," reckoned Salceda, chairman of the House Special Committee on Food Security.
This early, the solon from Bicol is crossing his fingers that Mendoza implement pro-farmer policies.
"I hope he will make tax compliance easier and cheaper for farmers, cooperatives, and agribusinesses," Salceda said.
"When compliance costs go down, food costs also go down. Simpler rules mean more producers can join the formal economy, and more food can move faster and more cheaply from farms to markets," he noted.
