BACOLOD CITY – A 44-year-old lineman was electrocuted to death in Barangay III-Poblacion, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, Nov. 11, days before 45th birth anniversary.
The Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (Noceco) mourned the death of Sarex Alonso, a resident of Barangay San Juan, Pontevedra and based at the Noceco San Enrique Field Office.
“Today, we profoundly mourn the passing of Sarex V. Alonso. He was more than just a dedicated worker and colleague; he was a truly loyal friend to many,” Noceco said.
He dedicated his life to service, and as a result, his honor remains unbroken. May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest eternally in peace, the power firm added.
Investigation said the victim, who was set to celebrate his birthday on Nov. 23, was repairing power lines on a utility pole at about 9:30 a.m. when he was accidentally electrocuted.
The victim was taken to a hospital in Valladolid, Negros Occidental where he was declared dead.
The power firm also paid tribute to another employee who was on his way to work when he suffered an illness and died.
Negros Occidental suffered a blackout during the onslaught of typhoon “Tino” on Nov. 4.
Parts of the province have no electricity as clearing and restoration operations are ongoing.
