Gary Valenciano is in excellent health; We fell into fake news trap!
Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano is in good health and doing well following a series of successful shows in the US, Australia, and New Zealand.
Gary Valenciano and Angeli Pangilinan (Facebook)
Angeli Pangilinan, his wife and manager, shared the good news about his health after he returned from abroad, where Gary staged successful shows. she was reacting to fake news announcing that Gary is suffering from kidney problems which was related in a long revelation supposedly posted by Gary himself.
Unfortunately, we fell for the “revelation” which we checked through a link provided in the story, which led to a fake website whose address was made to appear like that of the Department of Health. Still half-asleep and facing a long list of coverages and interviews for the day, I swallowed the fake revelation hook, line, and sinker— wrote a story, and forgetting my usual cross check from the subject’s office, posted it!
The horrible feeling of having been fooled by a fake website —at my age and long experience in media — came like suffocating in a crowded train when I was informed that Angeli had called to say my story was fake news! We pulled down the story and immediately sent a letter of apology to Gary and Angeli.
Although we were informed that a story clarifying the fake news post was not necessary, as a journalist, I should not only communicate our apology but also let people know that such fake stories, which lead to fake sites, are out there. And they have been designed to look so real, even I fell for it. This is my first time falling into a fake news trap; those who are newer in the beat should be careful!
The happy news, though comes with Angelo’s post, which I am sure Gary V. fans, including me, is: "Gary and I just arrived from the USA today, and on the plane, he proudly showed me his gadget that tracks his health goals. It showed that he had an impressive 80 percent efficiency regarding his sugar level goals!" Angeli wrote on Facebook on Nov. 12.
Angeli mentioned that both she and Gary were catching up on sleep due to jet lag.
"Right now, we are jet-lagged, and Gary is sleeping peacefully! He just completed five very successful shows in the USA and seven in Australia and New Zealand. Most of these shows lasted about two hours each! He will be performing for the ASEAN on Friday and participating in an ASAPOFFICIAL live telethon on Sunday!" she shared on social media.
Angeli also addressed false rumors claiming that Gary was suffering from kidney failure and kidney stones.
"While Gary did have kidney cancer seven years ago following a successful double bypass, he underwent a partial nephrectomy and has been cancer-free since his surgery on June 13, 2018.
"His recent medical tests showed a normal creatinine level and outstanding results. His HA1C level was 6.6, which reflects a normal average sugar level over the past few months!" Angeli said. "There is no truth to these scam stories. It's just clickbait. Don't fall for it."
Angeli urged Gary's fans to share the positive news about his health.
"Thank you, and long live my husband, our medical miracle. No weapon formed against him will prosper. God bless him," she added.
