The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed at least 865,000 family food packs and other relief items to families affected by Typhoons Uwan (Fung-wong) and Tino (Kalmaegi), which brought heavy rains and flooding across several regions over the past weeks.
As of Wednesday, Nov. 12, the DSWD said 865,759 family food packs and 23,662 ready-to-eat food boxes have been delivered to affected areas in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Cordillera Administrative Region, and National Capital Region.
The relief assistance was distributed in coordination with local government units responding to the needs of families displaced by flooding and landslides.
“The DSWD continues to strengthen its capacity to make sure that food and other essential services reach every affected Filipino on time,” said DSWD Assistant Secretary and Disaster Response Management Group head Irene Dumlao.
“Preparedness, coordination, and compassion remain at the heart of every relief operation,” she added.
Aside from food distribution, DSWD has deployed water trucks, water treatment units, and a mobile command center to support ongoing relief operations in disaster-hit areas.
Dumlao said the agency is also using mobile kitchens in several evacuation centers to provide hot meals to evacuees, particularly in communities that remain isolated due to flooding.
