BPI clients can now withdraw cash at grocery checkouts
The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has partnered with Robinsons Retail Holdings to enable millions of clients to securely obtain up to ₱10,000 in free cash withdrawals directly at retail checkouts using only their mobile app.
BPI said its clients can now obtain cash securely without an ATM card by generating a barcode via the BPI mobile app and presenting it at the counter of a participating RRHI store.
Withdrawals are limited to up to five transactions per day, depending on the retail brand, and all transactions remain free of charge.
“They don’t have to make an extra trip just to withdraw cash,” said Jose Teodoro Limcaoco, BPI president and chief executive officer said. “They can do it while doing their groceries, or while shopping at the department store. That’s the kind of seamless experience we aim for.”
The service is initially available at more than 300 RRHI food category stores, including Robinsons Supermarket, The Marketplace, Shopwise, and Robinsons Easymart, as well as at Robinsons Department Store and Toys’R’Us. The bank plans to onboard more locations in phases.
The collaboration, which pairs a major lender with a top retailer, extends beyond cash access. RRHI stores are also equipped to facilitate BPI savings account openings and product applications. Deposit acceptance is scheduled for phased implementation across additional locations.
The joint strategy aims to embed essential financial services into the daily routine of consumers, expanding BPI's national reach without the capital expenditure associated with building new branches or expanding its ATM network.
“This partnership is all about making banking possible and accessible and part of everyday life,” said Christine O. Tueres, Managing Director of RRHI’s Food Segment. “Together with BPI we’re not just making grocery shopping easier—we’re changing how Filipinos bank.”
