AUTHORITIES continue to look for a fourth victim of a landslide in Kalinga province.
LUBUAGAN, Kalinga – The bodies of three landslide victims in Barangay Western Uma here were recovered on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The body of a fourth victim – barangay kagawad Redento Tinio – is yet to be found. Search and retrieval operations for Tinio resumed Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Municipal Administrator James Tagaotao confirmed that the bodies of Rix Magwin, Ricardo Magwin, and Aquino Magwin have been found and turned over to their families.
Tagaotao said 10 individuals went to a house to retrieve belongings when the landslide struck due to
heavy rains from typhoon ‘’Uwan.’’Six managed to escape while four were trapped under the debris.
Rescuers reported that Tinio’s body was sighted near the steep edge of the slope that is difficult to access.
Local officials have requested the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to monitor the river if Tinio’s body is carried downstream.
Twenty-five persons have been killed in landslides in the Cordillera region triggered by Uwan.
Mayor Jaedicke Rhosd Dagadag of Tanudan, Kalinga said five barangays in the municipality remain isolated following the onslaught of Uwan on Sunday.
Uwan triggered landslides, flooded rice fields, damaged bridges, and swept away classrooms in the municipality.
