Barilea dies two days after 21st birth anniversary

BACOLOD CITY – A rising volleyball player was killed in a motorcycle-bus collision two days after his 21st birth anniversary in Barangay Zone 2, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
Police identified the victim as Ike Andrew Barilea of Alas Pilipinas Volleyball Team.
Police Lt. Mansueto de Jose Jr., deputy chief of the Cadiz City Police Station, said in a radio interview that Barilea, from Cadiz City, was driving a motorcycle and signaling to turn left when a tailing Ceres Liner bus struck him.
De Jose said that the 44-year-old bus driver claimed he miscalculated, resulting in the collision shortly after noon.
The victim slumped to the ground and sustained multiple injuries. He was taken to a private hospital here where he died.
Alas Pilipinas paid tribute to Barilea in a Facebook post.
“The court feels emptier, and our hearts heavier. Rest easy, ALAS IKE BARILEA. Thank you for the laughter, the memories, and the heart you gave to the team,” it said. “Heaven gained an angel, but we lost a piece of ours. Fly high, our dear ALAS,” it added.
