ILOILO CITY -- Typhoon “Uwan” affected 109,200 people from 578 barangays in Western Visayas region.
The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-6, chaired by the Office of Civil Defense-6, said their homes were flooded and damaged by very strong winds or strong waves.
The entire region was placed under storm signal No. 1.
The most affected was Capiz province with 44,858 people evacuated from 125 barangays.
The province of Antique had 36,175 people affected from 192 barangays; 10,653 from 109 barangays in Iloilo province; and 6,241 from 41 barangays in Guimaras province.
Western Visayas is still recovering from the impact of typhoon "Tino" last Nov. 4. More than a million people were affected by the storm.
