Following widespread destruction and flooding caused by Typhoons Tino and Uwan, thousands of displaced families are receiving critical support from World Vision Philippines.
The organization has launched emergency relief operations for families devastated by “Uwan” and “Tino,” which battered large parts of the country over the past week, causing extensive flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage.
“Tino” made landfall in Southern Leyte on November 4. Reports indicate that more than 706,000 individuals across seven regions have been affected. The storm displaced communities, damaged homes and schools, and disrupted the education of an estimated 9.18 million learners nationwide.
Super Typhoon Uwan, which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) just days later, brought maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h, with gusts reaching 230 km/h, prompting mass evacuations in several provinces.
Over 1.3 million residents were evacuated, while 836,000 people have so far been reported as affected by “Uwan.”
Since October, World Vision has also been assisting families impacted by the recent 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu, reaching 8,297 individuals across three municipalities and 33 barangays.
The humanitarian organization continues to operate in 14 Area Programmes in the Visayas, supporting nearly 24,000 children and their families through community-based initiatives.
“Our hearts go out to the families who have been hit by these devastating typhoons,” said Dr. Herbert Q. Carpio, National Director of World Vision Philippines.
“We remain committed to working alongside the government and our partners to ensure that affected children and families receive the immediate care they need.”
World Vision’s emergency teams are coordinating with local government units (LGUs) and partners to distribute life-saving essentials, including hygiene kits (bathing and laundry soaps, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sanitary pads, underwear, nail cutters, and towels/malong) and non-food items (family-size blankets, mosquito nets, and sleeping mats).
The organization is calling on the public to extend support and prayers for the affected communities and responders on the ground. “Every contribution makes a real and lasting difference,” it said. “With your help, we can reach more families and help them rebuild their lives,” it added.
Donations can be made through www.worldvision.org.ph
World Vision also urged everyone to “continue praying for the safety and protection of affected families and children, as well as for all responders working tirelessly on the ground.”
