Sputnik Gang member nabbed for motorcycle theft in Manila
A 23-year-old mechanic was ganged up on by several bystanders after he was caught stealing a motorcycle along San Diego Street corner Calamba Street in Brgy 500, Sampaloc, Manila, on Monday, Nov. 10.
The police identified the suspect as alias Ricky, a resident of Caloocan City and a known member of the notorious Sputnik Gang.
According to the police report, the victim and his friends caught Ricky attempting to steal his motorcycle while they were engaged in a drinking session at his friend's house.
The suspect subsequently drew out a kitchen knife and threatened to stab the victim and his friends as they tried to apprehend him.
The commotion drew the attention of several more bystanders, cornering the panicking suspect. He was eventually arrested by responding barangay officials and was later turned over to the police.
The authorities confiscated from Ricky the stolen motorcycle, a kitchen knife, three keys, a two-way radio, and other items used for stealing and breaking into homes.
The MPD said the suspect will be facing charges for violation of RA 10883 (New Anti-Carnapping Law) and BP-6 (illegal possession of a bladed weapon).
