In an interview, Sotto said that he remains unfazed and is leaving the matter to the trust and confidence of his fellow senators.
“We hear it every now and then. It’s a common story,” Sotto said when asked about persistent talks of a leadership change in the chamber.
He admitted hearing “one or two stories” over the weekend about alleged movements to unseat him.
“Meron daw lumalakad, mayroon daw kumakausap. Ganun lang (There were reports that someone is making the rounds, talking to others. That’s all),” he said.
Sotto said that he heard about it from a fellow senator.
Despite the talks, the Senate President said he remains confident in his position.
“Oo, una because ang kinukwento nila sa akin kung ano eh (Yes, first of all, because they tell me what’s going on),” he said.
“I don’t know. We didn’t talk about it further because they were denying it,” he said in Filipino, when asked who was involved.
He also said he was unaware of any specific issue being raised against his leadership.
“None, nothing was mentioned,” he said.
Sotto maintained that the Senate presidency ultimately depends on the collective decision of his peers.
“The Senate President should always leave it to the wisdom, trust, and confidence of his colleagues,” he said.
