Are "politics" getting in the way of the recovery of Liloan town in Cebu? Cebu 5th district Rep. Vincent Franco "Duke" Frasco thinks so.
That's why Rep. Frasco took to Facebook Monday, Nov. 10 to call out Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro for her alleged lack of action to help the flood-weary people of Liloan.
"Stop politicking and start governing, Governor of Cebu! This is the time for us Cebuanos to come together and help one another. Gov, we don’t need your cameras or your social media teams’ attacks," he wrote in mixed English and Cebuano.
"What we need are your excavators, payloaders, bulldozers, and backhoes to help us on the ground. We need your help. Asa naman mo? (Where are you all now?)" said the former House deputy speaker.
According to Rep. Frasco, the municipality has been waiting for days for any kind of logistical support from the Capitol following Typhoon "Tino's" onslaught, which caused destructive flash floods in the province.
"Since November 5, the DPWH, LGU, and private sector have immediately deployed all available resources, and clearing operations have been ongoing. But up to now, the Province of Cebu has not sent a single piece of heavy equipment or any clearing assistance to Liloan," he said.
"Liloan urgently needs help. Despite our political differences, Liloan is still part of Cebu and the Liloanons are Cebuanos, too," Rep. Frasco wrote, as if trying to knock sense into Baricuatro, whom he didn't name.
"Tabangi ang Liloan, Gov, ayaw daug-dauga tungod lang sa politika kay ang tawo ang mag-antos (Help Liloan, Gov, don't oppress it just because of politics, because it's the people who will suffer)," he said.
"Hunong na, sakto na ang sige’g pamulitika! (Stop it already, enough with the constant politicking!)" the majority solon added.
Baricuatro won the gubernatorial seat in the mid-term polls last May by upsetting Rep. Frasco's mother-in-law, incumbent Gwen Garcia.
The congressman's wife, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Frasco, is a former mayor of Liloan.
