'Uwan' displaces 806 families in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY – The Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) reported that 806 families or 3,226 individuals in 22 barangays in this highly-urbanized city were displaced by super typhoon “Uwan.”
Barangay Banago had 239 families, followed by Barangay Singcang-Airport with 126, 103 in Barangay 1; 95 in Barangay Tangub; one each in Barangays 14, 4, Sum-ag, and 27; 10 in Barangay Aliji; 21 in Barangay Pahanocoy; seven each in Barangays 3, 18, and 8; 28 in Barangay 2; 36 in Barangay 13; 17 in Barangay 14; four in Barangay Bata; 30 in Barangay 26; 16 in Barangay 36; 11 in Barangay Taculing; 33 in Barangay Villamonte, and 12 in Barangay 10.
Most of them residing near shorelines and coastal areas were subjected to preemptive evacuation on Sunday night, Nov. 9, as heavy rains, strong winds, and high tide were felt in this city.
These families temporarily stayed in evacuation centers here until they were allowed to return home.
“We are grateful for the discipline and vigilance shown by the residents throughout this period, especially in their adherence to preemptive evacuation protocols,” Mayor Greg Gasataya said.
Almost 150 passengers were stranded at the Bredco port as of Monday morning, Nov. 10, and temporarily staying in an evacuation center.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration has lifted the tropical cyclone wind signal for this city as Uwan continues to weaken, according to Gasataya.
Meanwhile, 48,290 houses were damaged by Tino in Negros Occidental.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that 6,855 were totally and 41,435 were partially damaged in 16 local government units (LGUs).
Hinigaran had 12,333 in 24 barangays, followed by La Carlota City with 11,034 in 14 barangays; 9,483 in 16 barangays in Bago City; 3,100 houses in Toboso; 2,768 in San Enrique; 1,576 in La Castellana; 1,478 in Pontevedra; 1,296 in E.B. Magalona; 1,276 in Silay City; 1,237 in Isabela; 957 in Manapla; 836 in San Carlos City; 640 in Escalante City; 231 in Cauayan; 41 in Binalbagan, and four in Sipalay City.
Tino displaced 167,000 families or 565,000 persons in 520 barangays in all 31 LGUs in the province.
District 5 composed of Hinigaran, Isabela, La Castellana, Binalbagan, Himamaylan City, and Moises Padilla was hardly hit, affecting 200,000 individuals or 81,000 families.
In District 4, 125,000 persons or 39,000 families were displaced in San Enrique, Bago City, Pontevedra, Pulipandan, Valladolid, and La Carlota City.
