Over 8,700 families evacuated in Quezon City due to 'Uwan'
The number of evacuees in Quezon City surged on Monday morning, Nov. 10, due to heavy rains brought by “Uwan”.
As of 8:00 a.m., the Quezon City government has recorded a total of 8,745 families, or approximately 31,364 individuals, who have been evacuated from flood- and landslide-prone communities and are now taking shelter in 161 evacuation centers citywide.
Authorities said the evacuation sites were activated to ensure the safe and orderly relocation of residents affected by continuous rains and the threat of rising floodwaters.
The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QCDRRMO) continues to monitor weather conditions and coordinate with barangay officials to provide relief supplies, medical aid, and other essential support to evacuees.
Alongside human evacuation efforts, the Quezon City Veterinary Department also mobilized its Veterinary Response Team to safeguard pets and animals.
Pet evacuation areas have been established in barangay Bagong Silangan, Pinyahan, North Fairview, Project 6, Tatalon, Apolonio Samson, and Sta. Cruz.
The City Veterinary Department, in coordination with Barangay Animal Officers, continues to monitor and assist in the protection and welfare of pets and livestock affected by the adverse weather conditions.
