H.E. Megawati Manan, ambassador of Brunei Darussalam (third from left), witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Municipality of Narra, Palawan, led by Mayor Gerandy B. Danao, and Wasan Milling Company Sdn. Bhd. (WMC) of Brunei Darussalam, represented by General Manager Saidin bin Namit, on Oct. 2 in Pasig City.
The signing of the MOU for contract farming and regional food security under the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) marks the beginning of the preparatory planting phase in Narra, Palawan — a crucial step toward the establishment of a full-scale contract farming program. Wasan Milling Company Sdn. Bhd. of Brunei Darussalam will provide critical support in inputs, technology transfer, and market linkage, with the goal of integrating Narra into Brunei Darussalam’s rice supply chain and contributing to the nation’s food security efforts.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Vice Mayor Jojo Gastanes, along with Narra LGU representatives, delegates from the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and other private sector stakeholders. Also in attendance was Ambassador Megawati Manan of the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of the Philippines.
Their presence underscored the significance of Narra as an important contributor to the BIMP-EAGA food security corridor, where cross-border collaboration promotes resilience and shared prosperity within the sub-regional framework and supports ASEAN economic integration.
