President Marcos has directed government agencies to continue conducting relief and rescue operations and the deployment of medical teams in affected areas amid the onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan.
Malacañang said Marcos made several directives to agencies dealing with disaster response efforts in a meeting Monday morning, Nov. 10.
According to Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro, Marcos has instructed the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to continue providing help to typhoon victims.
The conditions of evacuees in evacuation sites are being closely monitored, Castro said.
Bicol Region posted the highest number of evacuees, with around 100,050 families affected while 44,000 families in Camarines Sur and 20,000 families in Quezon Province were also seeking shelter at evacuation centers.
"Inaasahan namang makakabalik na sa kanilang mga tahanan ang mga nasa evacuation centers matapos ang unti-unting pag-hupa ng tubig baha doon (They are expected to return to their residences after floods subside)," Castro said.
The President has also ordered the Department of Health (DOH) to ensure that medical teams are deployed in evacuation sites to monitor the health of the evacuees.
Marcos also directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to begin rehabilitation efforts on damaged roads to ensure that the delivery of aid to any part of the country would not be delayed.
According to the DPWH, 71 roads remain impassable due to the effects of the super typhoon, including those in Central Luzon and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) — particularly in Mountain Province, Benguet, and Apayao.
Some roads in Aurora also remain impassable.
Castro said that based on the report of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Pangasinan was among the areas severely affected by flooding.
The OCD reported four fatalities due to Super Typhoon Uwan, two of these are still being validated by the agency, she added.
"Wala namang naitalang missing persons pero nilinaw ng OCD na nagpapatuloy pa rin ang rescue operations sa Pangasinan (No missing persons have been reported, but the OCD clarified that rescue operations in Pangasinan are still ongoing)," the Palace official said.
According to Castro, the President has also directed all government agencies to maintain continuous monitoring of weather conditions from today until tomorrow.
"Pinaalalahanan din ng Pangulo ang lahat ng concerned agencies na ipag-patuloy ang rehabilitation efforts sa mga lugar na sinalanta ng bagyong Tino at sa mga lugar na napinsala ng super typhoon Uwan (The President likewise reminded all concerned agencies to continue rehabilitation efforts in areas affected by Typhoon Tino and those damaged by Super Typhoon Uwan)," Castro said.
