The embassies of Canada and Ireland in Manila sent their sympathies to the families and victims of Super Typhoon Uwan that unleashed its fury across Eastern Visayas and some parts of Luzon.
The two embassies took to social media to condole with those affected by the super typhoon in the Philippines.
“Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by Super Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) in several regions across the Philippines,” the Embassy of Canada in Manila wrote.
The embassy also said it would continue to coordinate with various local and international humanitarian partners to “determine how best to help address urgent needs and support recovery efforts.”
In a separate post, the Embassy of Ireland expressed its deepest sympathies for Typhoon Uwan victims as it conveyed its readiness to support the Philippines’ relief operations
According to embassy, Ireland will support the country’s response through the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), which has released $5.9 million in support for vulnerable communities.
“Likewise, Start Ready, as part of @StartNetwork has disbursed funds for Eastern Samar and Surigao del Norte. (Ireland) has given Start Ready €6.2m overall since 2022, and allocated €2.5m to Start Ready specifically in climate and humanitarian funding in 2025,” it said.
President Marcos has directed government agencies to continue conducting relief and rescue operations and the deployment of medical teams in affected areas amid Uwan onslaught.
On Monday, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported the super typhoon left at least two people dead and 830,000 affected individuals. Two other fatalities are still being validated by the agency.
Bicol Region posted the highest number of evacuees, with around 100,050 families affected while 44,000 families in Camarines Sur, and 20,000 families in Quezon Province were staying at evacuation centers.
A report from the OCD said Pangasinan was among the areas severely affected by flooding caused by the super typhoon. There were 71 roads that still remain impassable due to the effects of Uwan.
