DAVAO City school service vehicles.
DAVAO CITY – Liga ng mga Barangay President and Davao City Councilor January Duterte turned over school service vehicles to nine barangays in three legislative districts here recently, reinforcing efforts to provide students with safe and free transportation.
The distribution marks the second batch of vehicles under the “Libreng Sakay para sa Edukasyon” program launched in January to support students in far-flung and underserved barangays. Each district received three school service units.
These vehicles will benefit Ma-a, Talomo Proper, and Bago Gallera in the first district; Pandaitan, San Isidro, and Mudiang in the second district, and Malamba, Malagos, and Inayangan in the third district.
Duterte said in a message that the program aims to alleviate the transportation burden on parents and ensure that students can travel safely to and from school. She noted that many parents cannot afford safe transportation for their children.
“Through these Libreng Sakay school service vehicles, we aim to alleviate their situation so that their children can focus on their studies, go to school safely, and go home without worries,” Duterte said.
Duterte added that the Libreng Sakay initiative not only supports education but also promotes safety and family welfare. She said the program is part of the city’s effort to support public service, youth, and local communities.
The Liga ng mga Barangay also distributed one school service vehicle to Barangays Ma-a, Talomo Proper, and Bago Gallera under the same program on Oct. 29. Barangay officials thanked the city and vowed to maintain them.
Since it was launched last January, the program has benefited hundreds of students here, particularly those residing in remote areas.
