ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police recovered smuggled cigarettes valued at P15.8 million during a maritime security patrol in the sea of Manalipa Island here on Friday, Nov. 7.
Lawmen noticed a motorboat making suspicious maneuvers and decided to investigate.
An inspection of the boat revealed 226 boxes of assorted cigarettes worth P15.8 million.
Police also found two Garand rifles in the possession of the crew.
The captain of the motor boat said the cigarettes came from Jolo town, Sulu province for delivery to Sultan Kudarat.
The contraband was turned over to the Bureau of Customs.
