The Muntinlupa City government evacuated 992 families from high-risk areas due to super typhoon “Uwan” (“Fung-Wong”).
Mayor Ruffy Biazon earlier ordered local and barangay disaster risk reduction and management members to implement preemptive evacuation.
“In view of this development, you are hereby directed to conduct pre-emptive and/or forced evacuation within your respective Areas of Responsibility (AOR), particularly in coastal areas, low-lying areas, and identified flood prone and landslide prone communities, as necessary,” he wrote in an order.
Data from the Muntinlupa Social Services Department showed that as of 2 p.m. on Nov. 9, a total of 992 families or 4,210 individuals are in evacuation centers in six of the nine barangays.
Barangay Cupang has 276 families evacuated, the highest among six barangays. The families are staying in four evacuation centers.
This was followed by Barangay Alabang at 252 families; Barangay Poblacion, 211 families; Barangay Buli, 123 families; Barangay Putatan, 72 families; and Barangay Tunasan, 58 families.
Biazon visited the evacuation centers to see the condition of the families and inspected creeks and rivers.
