More than 500 evacuees were reported in Manila on the afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 9, as Super Typhoon Uwan approaches.
Around 450 residents or 150 families from Aplaya, Baseco have evacuated to H. J. Atienza Elementary School, now serving as an official evacuation center. In District 1, one family from Barangay 20, Isla Puting Bato was moved to the Delpan Sports Complex, while 20 families or 80 individuals from Barangay 105, Happyland, Tondo were also relocated to safer areas.
The Manila Police District (MPD) has placed all personnel on full alert, deploying Search and Rescue (SAR) teams and ensuring that rescue and communication equipment are ready.
The MPD said it is pursuant to the PNP’s full mobilization order, which directs police units nationwide to support local governments, secure evacuation centers, and coordinate disaster response.
Officers are assisting in evacuations, patrolling flood-prone areas, and coordinating with barangay officials and the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to secure vulnerable communities.
All MPD precincts, including PS-1 and PS-4, have activated SAR teams that are standing by to respond immediately, while ambulances and support vehicles continue to patrol neighborhoods and provide assistance to residents in need.
PNP Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. emphasized that the police are not only responsible for security but also for rescue, evacuation, and relief operations, working closely with local authorities to ensure the safety of affected communities.
He instructed police units to prepare their personnel and families, maintain equipment readiness, and assist in force evacuations in coastal, riverside, and landslide-prone areas.
As Super Typhoon Uwan nears, police said concerned units remain vigilant and proactive, ready to protect lives, assist evacuees, and support local authorities in safeguarding the city’s most vulnerable communities.
