The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) suspended the field training component of its annual joint military drills, AJEX DAGIT-PA 09-2025, as it redirected troops and resources to respond to the potential devastation of Super Typhoon “Uwan” on Sunday, Nov. 9.
In a statement, the AFP said the decision was made to “immediately shift focus toward humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) operations,” emphasizing that the safety and welfare of communities remain the military’s top priority.
“The priority and resources of all personnel, including approximately 2,000 troops, are now fully devoted to pre-disaster preparedness and rapid response in affected areas,” the military said.
The exercise, which began on November 4 and was slated to run until November 14, involved three main activities: Command and Control (C2), Cyber Defense Exercise (CYDEX), and Field Training Exercises (FTX).
The suspension applies specifically to the field maneuvers under the Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) and Western Command (WESCOM) areas, two regions that are expected to be affected by Uwan.
Soldiers who were initially part of the joint training will now be redeployed to support pre-disaster preparations, evacuation efforts, and rapid response operations in threatened communities.
AJEX DAGIT-PA, which stands for AFP Joint Exercise Dagat-Langit-Lupa (Sea-Air-Land), is a comprehensive training program designed to strengthen the interoperability of the Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force, Philippine Navy, and Philippine Marine Corps in land, air, and maritime operations.
It aims to enhance the AFP’s capability to respond effectively to a wide range of security challenges and to promote unity of effort across its major services, including the active participation of the reserve force in joint and combined missions.
