8,898 persons evacuated in Negros Occidental due to typhoon

BACOLOD CITY – Authorities evacuated 2,687 families or 8,898 individuals in Negros Occidental due to the threat of super typhoon “Uwan.”
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said Talisay City has the most number of evacuees with 604 families or 2,205 persons, followed by San Enrique with 592 families or 2,134 persons; Hinigaran with 542 families or 1,767 persons; Escalante City with 347 families or 1,073 persons; Bago City with 243 families or 611 individuals; E.B. Magalona with 192 families or 540 persons; Cauayan with 69 families or 243 individuals; Silay City with 53 families or 179 persons, and Hinoba-an with 45 families or 146 persons.
They are now staying in evacuation centers.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson ordered the evacuation of people, particularly those living in high-risk areas susceptible to flooding, landslides, and storm surges.
Negros Occidental is under Signal No. 1.
A state of calamity was declared in the province due to the devastation from typhoon “Tino,” particularly in the fourth and fifth districts, with 53 reported deaths.
Around 10,604 food packs and 459 hygiene kits have been provided by the provincial government to Tino-hit local government units (LGUs) from Nov. 6 to 8.
