TACLOBAN CITY – Eighty-two houses were destroyed in a fire before dawn on Sunday in Barangay Iniguihan, Bato town, Leyte province.
One-hundred six families were displaced by the fire that reached the third alarm. Five-hundred eighty-nine families evacuated to the municipal evacuation center.
The blaze was promptly reported by residents to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).
The BFP Matalom, BFP Hilongos, BFP Bontoc, BFP Inopacan, BFP Maasin, BFP Sogod, BFP Hindang, BFP Baybay, barangay responders, and local volunteers responded and contained the fire.
Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
