ZAMBOANGA CITY – More than 1,200 families sought safer grounds due to flooding triggered by tropical cyclone “Uwan” that inundated several parts of this city on Sunday.
The City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office said Barangay Tumaga had the highest number of displaced individuals with 2,841 or 943 families who were brought to the Tumaga Elementary School.
Other affected barangays were Barangay Guiwan and Barangay Tugbungan in the east coast with 101 and 377 affected families, respectively.
Two-hundred fifty families and 45 families from Barangays Santa Maria and Pasonanca also sought shelter due to flooding.
The city government has mobilized resources to help displaced individuals and affected communities.
The CDRRMO, police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, Barangay DRMMCs, and other force multipliers are on alert since Sunday morning to respond to emergencies.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office, with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, distributed ready to eat food to victims.
