BUTUAN CITY – Police intercepted a truck loaded with smuggled cigarettes worth P8 million in Sultan Naga Dimaporo town, Lanao del Norte province on Thursday, Nov. 6.
The 29-year-old driver failed to present a Certificate of Registration and was issued a Temporary Operator’s Permit (TOP).
The driver was taken to the SND Municipal Police Station for documentation and filing of appropriate charges.
The truck and smuggled cigarettes are now under the custody of the Highway Patrol Group in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
Meanwhile, police intercepted a truck loaded with P10-million worth of suspected mineral ores in a checkpoint in Sitio Nabunturan, Barangay Kalagangan, San Fernando town, Bukidnon province on Friday, Nov. 7.
The 24-year-old driver presented only a sand and gravel permit, prompting police to conduct further inspection.
Lawmen found 500 sacks of mineral ores that came from Barangay Dao, San Fernando, Bukidnon and bound to Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
“Their inspection revealed suspected mineral ores later confirmed by Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) personnel to be illegally extracted minerals,” Navarro said.
The truck, mining-related equipment, and the contraband were turned over to MENRO San Fernando for safekeeping and disposition.
Charges against the driver are being prepared in coordination with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau.
PRO-10 Director Police Brig. Gen. Christopher N. Abrahano commended operating units for their achievements.
