Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said on Saturday, Nov. 8, that evacuation centers in the city are now ready in case they are needed, as the city prepares for the expected impact of Typhoon Uwan.

Sotto added that the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and Incident Management Team (IMT) have also been activated, with personnel instructed to report at the Incident Command Post at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The local government urged residents in flood-prone areas to follow their barangay’s instructions for preemptive evacuation, if announced.

As of 12 p.m. on Saturday, the Pasig City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council raised the city’s alert level to red.

Earlier, the local government conducted a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) with the city’s 30 barangays to brief officials and plan for worst-case scenarios, including putting emergency vehicles and equipment on standby.

The mayor added that pumping stations (PS) are also ready, with manpower and diesel on standby, but noted the following:

•Acacia LGU PS – not yet complete, but the MMDA pump is operational, with a portable pump on standby.

•Parian-Pinagbuhatan LGU PS – not yet complete, but the MMDA pump is operational, with a portable pump on standby.

•Buli Creek PS – not yet turned over to the LGU, but a portable pump has been requested.

•P. Conducto Caniogam PS – under maintenance and troubleshooting.

In addition, the Karangalan Dela Paz PS will not be used per agreement with Cainta LGU, as Sotto said, “Para manatiling nakababa ang floodgate sa side nila at makadaloy ang tubig mula sa atin (To keep the floodgate low on their side and allow water to flow from Pasig).”

He also reminded barangays that all of the city’s fire trucks are equipped with detachable/portable pumps that can be deployed in trouble areas.

The local government said it will continue to monitor weather conditions closely.

For emergencies, residents may call 8643-0000.
