The closure, which began on Friday night, Nov. 7, aims to prevent high waters from Manila Bay from flowing into inland areas, particularly the Tangos River Channel, where small fishing boats and vessels usually pass.
While operations at the Navigational Gate are suspended, the Navotas and Kailugan Floodgates will remain open to manage water flow and reduce the risk of flooding in nearby communities.
The MMDA said the temporary shutdown is part of its standard safety procedure during severe weather conditions to protect coastal residents and properties.
Boat passage along the Tangos River Channel will remain prohibited until weather conditions improve and it is deemed safe to resume operations.
The Navotas City government has urged residents, especially local fishermen, to observe caution and follow official advisories.
Continuous coordination between the MMDA, Navotas LGU, and national agencies is ongoing to ensure that the city’s flood control systems function efficiently throughout the storm.
