Manila prepares evacuation centers, relief ops ahead of TS Uwan
As part of the city’s proactive measures in anticipation of the possible impact of Tropical Storm Uwan, Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso has directed the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MCDRRMO), under the leadership of Director Arnel Angeles, to prepare and activate all designated evacuation centers should the need for mass evacuation arise.
Among the facilities being readied are selected public schools that will serve as temporary evacuation sites.
These locations are currently being inspected to ensure they are safe, clean, and ready to accommodate evacuees.
Mayor Domagoso has also instructed Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) Director Jay Dela Fuente to prepare hot meals and emergency relief packs for immediate distribution to residents who may be affected by the storm.
The city government has ordered the temporary takedown or deactivation of billboards and large outdoor signage across the city to prevent accidents that may be caused by strong winds.
“We urge everyone to stay safe and alert. The City of Manila is continuously monitoring the situation and stands ready to implement all necessary measures to ensure the safety and welfare of every Manileño,” Mayor Domagoso said.
