TACLOBAN CITY – Gov. Ralph Vincent Evardone has directed all local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils in Eastern Samar to implement preparedness measures and conduct preemptive evacuations in high-risk areas for typhoon “Uwan.”
These areas include coastal communities vulnerable to storm surge and strong winds, flood-prone and landslide-susceptible areas, and barangays near rivers, creeks, and mountain slopes.
The order emphasized strict compliance to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents in the face of the approaching typhoon.
As of 5 p.m. Saturday, Uwan was 575 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar or 620 kms east of Virac, Catanduanes, the State weather bureau said.
Uwan has maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 185 kph.
Tropical cyclone wind signal No. 2 was hoisted over several municipalities in Eastern Samar – Maslog, San Policarpo, Dolores, Jipapad, Oras, Arteche, Can-avid, City of Borongan, Taft, Sulat, San Julian, and Maydolong.
Remaining municipalities in the province are under signal No. 1.
