CEBU CITY – After suffering severe damage from typhoon ‘’Tino,’’ the city of Danao in northern Cebu province is not taking any chances as another weather disturbance, typhoon “Uwan” is bearing down on the country.
The city government, headed by Mayor Nito Durano, asked residents to take precautionary measures against Uwan.
Danao was placed under storm signal No. 1 as of Saturday, Nov. 8.
Those living in low-lying areas were asked to evacuate preemptively. Residents were also advised to take temporary shelter with relatives living in high-rise dwellings.
Residents were encouraged to come up with safety plans in case of emergency.
The city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is in 24/7 red alert status coordinating all response, logistics, and inter-agency operations.
The city composed of 42 barangays issued the reminders after suffering heavy damage from Tino last Nov. 4.
Nine residents died while 4,401 families were displaced and are still in the city’s 40 active evacuation centers.
The city is expecting the number of evacuees to increase due to the effects of Uwan.
