The Caloocan City government on Saturday, Nov. 8, placed the entire city under red alert status as a precautionary measure against the possible effects of Tropical Storm Uwan (Fung-Wong).
Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan directed the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD) and all barangay units to be on full alert and ready to respond to any emergency situation.
The city government warned that heavy rains and strong winds may still cause flooding and other hazards in several low-lying areas.
Malapitan ordered all barangays to closely monitor creeks, rivers, and drainage systems and to activate their Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (BDRRMCs) to ensure prompt response and early evacuation if necessary.
Rescue teams, emergency vehicles, and evacuation centers have been placed on standby, while coordination with national agencies such as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is ongoing.
The mayor urged residents to remain calm but alert, avoid wading through floodwaters, and keep children indoors for their safety.
