Mayor Ruffy Biazon placed Muntinlupa under blue alert in preparation for severe tropical storm “Uwan” (“Fung-Wong”).
Muntinlupa City government departments are on alert to ensure the safety of residents, especially those living in flood-prone areas.
The Muntinlupa Emergency Operations Center will be monitoring 24/7 while all disaster response units are on standby.
The Muntinlupa Department of Disaster Resilience and Management deployed teams for risk assessment in different areas.
According to the Social Services Department, evacuation sites are ready in case residents need to be evacuated.
Food packs and medical supplies are being readied while health personnel from the City Health Office are on standby.
The city’s Office of the City Veterinarian also has collapsible cages for pets that will be included in the evacuation.
Also on standby are tree cutting and trimming personnel from the Environment Sanitation Center (ESC) and Sagip Ilog personnel from the Lake Management Office.
The city government has advised residents in flood-prone areas to transfer to evacuation centers before the storm hits the city.
It is also coordinating with barangays for the monitoring of water levels, evacuation and provide right information to their communities.
The City Engineering Department took down tarpaulin billboards to prevent accidents due to heavy winds.
In an advisory at 5 p.m. on Nov. 7, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said "severe tropical storm Fung-Wong outside the Philippine area of responsibility is now named ‘Uwan’ as wind signals are now hoisted over several areas of the country.”
It said as of 4 p.m., “The center of Severe Tropical Storm Uwan was estimated based on all available data at 1,175 km East of Eastern Visayas (11.6°N, 136.2°E)” with “maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 135 km/h, and central pressure of 975 hPa.”
