The Malabon City government on Friday, Nov. 7, placed all its departments and barangays on alert as part of its preparations for Severe Tropical Storm "Uwan."
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval led the Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) meeting held at the Malabon Central Command Center to assess the city’s readiness and response plans.
She was joined by Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Roderick Tongol, City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete, and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)–Malabon Secretary Jesse Marie Acoba.
Also present were representatives from the barangays, Malabon City Police Station (MCPS), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Department of Education (DepEd), Meralco, and other national agencies.
Sandoval reminded the public that while natural disasters cannot be prevented, preparedness and teamwork can help save lives and minimize damage.
During the meeting, disaster and emergency teams discussed potential hazards such as flooding, strong winds, and heavy rainfall.
Barangay officials were instructed to activate their Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (BDRRMCs) and prepare evacuation centers, rescue equipment, and monitoring teams in flood-prone areas.
The DILG Malabon also directed barangays to maintain close coordination with the city government to ensure prompt response when necessary.
All city departments and response clusters provided updates on their preparations to ensure continuous operations before, during, and after the storm.
Sandoval urged residents to remain vigilant, follow official advisories, and cooperate with authorities.
